Just a regular day at PMS

My school's initials are PMS. Standing for Presidio Middle School. The irony about the name is that everyone here is constantly pre menstrual. Not literally, but still, it's crazy. Today was just a normal day, a girl named Mercedes got arrested for slapping our art teacher, Mrs. Lewis, when she tried to take away her phone. Nothing strange about this, just perfectly normal for a top california school. Farpuck tharpe sarpanfrarpancarpiscarpo scharpoarpol sarpystarpem!!!!

Bay School 2014 :)

HURRAY!!!!!!! I'm officially going to The Bay School, which I know I seemed all pissed about in my last post, but it's actually super exciting now! I was all depressed that I didn't get into UHS for like 10 minutes, and then I got all excited! (sorry it's long, just please take the time to read it)

Reasons that I am excited:

-You get a laptop!!!!!!

-You only have to take math for two trimesters out of a year, and you only have to take math 1, 2, and 3 in the entire 4 years, plus you get to choose whether or not you want to take calculus!

-You complete three years of required science in two years, meaning for the first two trimesters of freshman year, you take conceptual physics, then for the last trimester of freshman year and the first trimester of sophomore year, you take Chemistry, then for the last two trimesters of sophomore year, you take Biology. Because of this, in junior year I could take "field biology", or "brain and mind" as my science class if I wanted to.

-When you are a junior and a senior, you get to pick a load of your classes (meaning the type of science or math or history or english that you take. For example, if I wanted to in my junior year, I could take "Dramatic literature: Conversations Between Plays", or "Historical Fiction" as my english class!)

-There are a ton of choices (50+) for those elective classes, including "History of mathematics" or "Game theory" for math, "Latin American studies", or "U.S. Foreign Policy" for history, or even "computer science" for technology!

-They have a catering company make extremely delicious organic lunch every day, which is just amazing.

-It's in an amazingly beautiful part of the city, right by the bay, next to Crissy field, with a beach, biking and hiking trails, and saltwater marshes. When it's time to study biology, just step outside! When it's time to paint a landscape for art class, the famous bridge is right out the window!

-They give you a half an hour each day to work on homework, or to go see your teachers, which is a huge help for time management.

-There is a half hour of pleasure reading time before lunch every monday, because who really has time for that now in the tech-savvy world that we live in?

-They have an amazing selection of arts classes (14, not including advanced arts) including drawing, painting, digital imaging, publication arts, 3D concepts, VIDEO PRODUCTION, drama, intensive performance, jazz, music composition, electronic music, dance in a cultural context, and afrohaitian dance.

-The mascot is breakers :)

-There are 21 different clubs to join, including yearbook, outing club, A Cappella group, literary magazine (writer block), Unity club, Arts and crafts club, Biking club, peer tutoring, and the student newspaper (the current)

-In just 2008 and 2009, there were 183 different colleges and universities that Bay students were accepted to, including MIT, Stanford, UC Berkeley, Wellesley, Duke, Bowdoin, and the US Naval Academy

-A common misconception is that Bay is easier than schools such as University High, or Urban, however, Bay is just as academically rigorous.

-There is a 1 to 8 student ratio, 80 minute class periods, 4 total classes taken per trimester, and an average of 14 students per class, giving you SO much more one on one time with your teachers.

- 28% of students at Bay are of color, which might seem like a small number, but when you really think about it, that is a ton more then schools like Drew or SI.

-There are 3 dramatic productions yearly.

-The physical activities are actually cool, like rock climbing, or yoga.

-Amazing quote that I enjoy reading over and over again in the pamphlet (It just makes me happy):
"Learning math doesn't have to follow a formula. In Andy Shaw's math class, instead of learning the x's and the y's, you learn why they actually matter."

EXACTLY 20 REASONS WHY BAY IS AMAZINGLY AWESOME

This concludes the entry in which I convince Val to come to Bay, which took over an hour to write!!!!! PLEASE COME!!! DON'T YOU SEE HOW AMAZING IT IS???? Everyone comment and tell her to come!!!!!!!!

Just got my high school letters....

So it's kinda bitter sweet, but honestly, it's mostly bitter. I didn't get into my first choice, University, so thats a huge let down. However, I did get wait-listed at my second choice, Urban, so hopefully that will come through. I Got into my third choice with high praise, Bay, and it looks like we can afford it, but as i said, it's my third choice. Why does it feel like everyone else has all the luck? Val, you better get into Urban, or at least wait-listed. I am NOT doing this without you.

High School Is All I Have On My Mind These Days....

OH MY GOD!!!!!! I want to go to UHS sooooo freaking bad...... You really have no idea how much it is stressing me out that I have no control over what will happen, all I know is that if I don't get in (which is extremely possible because of SSAT scores and my overall stupidity) I'm going to be crushed. And I don't mean just every day type of crushed, I mean the type of crushed where you sleep all day and drown your never ending sorrows into a large carton of your best friends, Ben and Jerry. the type of crushed where you watch Dawson's Creek because you don't want to get up and find the remote to change the channel. The type of crushed where whenever you try to talk, your words are drowned out by tears. Thats how crushed I will be. maybe even worse. Val and i NEED to go to this school together. Somehow, we will go to the same school. I just really hope it's UHS. i've resorted to tarot cards. This shows how crazy i am becoming from the stress. Pray to the she gods!!!!

Crazy High School Parties NEVER End Well

Last night, one of my amazingly cool friends Rose came over, because she was invited to this boy's 15th birthday party which was going on across the street, and she didn't want to show up too soon as not to seem desperate because she is FREAKING IN LOVE with this boy. So this one time, to cover up the fact that she is obsessed, she decided it would be okay to tell him that I'M the one who likes him! No Rose, that would be you. Thanks a bunch for putting me in a super awkward place! Anyway, we were staring at him through my window, and playing "Go Fish", and talking about how much she wants to do him, and just had a slap happy good time. So, about an hour into the party (yes, an hour WOW lame, but hard core in a way) a fire truck showed up outside of his house, and pulled out two boys on a stretcher, covered in vomit. Beautiful, I know. Naturally, my dad goes to find out what happened, and Rose calls all of her friends who are at the party, and it turns out there was something about shrooms, and weed brownies, and passing out in the bathroom, and vomiting all over themselves. So this is what happened, and it was really scary, but kinda funny, and now there's an article about teen drug abuse on the front cover of the newspaper. Coinsidence? I think not.... anyway, those boys are in the emergency room, and Rose got to have an actual conversation with her dream boy, which she was very excited about, even though she didn't get to go to his party. The prefect ending to a horrible day, don't you think? I used a freaking lot of comma's but I don't really care enought to go back and delete all of them.

The School District Can SUCK IT!

So guess what did all day yesterday? I waited on my window seat, starring out at the world, waiting for the mailman to come. Why? Because yesterday was the day that we would get our public High School assignments. Honestly, I have my heart set on going to a private school with one of my bestest friends, Val, just cuz we're white. Well, I'm white. She's half asian, and I'll never let her forget it.
Anyway, it got to be around 4:00, and the letters still hadn't arrived.... confused, I started to panic! Why had everyone else gotten their assignments, and not me? The world was out to get me I thought, there is a god, and she hates me!
So Around 4:30 I had had enough of this craziness, and found the phone number of the post office online. I had my father call to see what was going on. After being on hold for what seemed like forever, we finally got our answer. "There is a substitute carrier, and he will be at your house around 5:00." The world was out to get me I thought, there is a god, and she hates me!
We had a half hour to kill, and my dad and i went to go get a movie. having only killed 15 minutes, we walked around a bit, bought some girl scout cookies, deposited some checks, then we were on our way home. Guess who was right in front of our door when we got home? THE MAIL MAN!!!!! We grabbed our mail from him and sprinted into the house!
I had gotten three letters: one from a school called Gateway, which is a charter school (and I didnt care too but about getting into this one). One from a school called SOTA, or School Of The Arts (i had already gotten one rejection from them, so I reapplied). And one from the school district, giving me my public school assignment. I hoped to get into Lowell, which is one of the best high schools in the country.
First, I opened Gateway. It was a large envelope, which seemed like good news! I opened it, and I was wrong. "Okay, that's fine," I thought, "I don't want to go to Gateway anyway."
So then i opened the letter from SOTA. Seeing as it was a small letter, i predicted bad news.... I was right. They put me on the waiting list. Great.
Starting to lose faith, i opened the pubic school assignment. I so wanted it to be Lowell...................... JOHN O. CONNELL?????? WTF!!!!!!!!!!!! JOHN O. CONNEL IS ONE OF THE WORST SCHOOLS IN SAN FRANCISCO!!!!! I HAVE GOOD GRADES!!!!!!! TWO 4.00'S!!!!! I DON'T EVEN LIVE ANYWHERE NEAR JOHN O. CONNELL!!!! WHAT DID I DO TO DESERVE THIS FATE????? The world was out to get me I thought, there is a god, and she hates me!
The district freaking stinks. Seriously. One of my friends, Iryna, goes to school right down the street from this school called Washington, she put is as her first choice, and she got the school called Wallenburg. This really crappy school nowhere near where she lives. THE SCHOOL DISTRICT SUCKS!!!!!!!!!
However, not all hope is gone, next weekend I will get the responses from the private schools, the ones that my heart is really set on! Pray to the she god's for me!
(sorry this is a really long post, I'm just a tad bit upset.....)
